E60: The Baton Rouge Serial Killer

This week Beth and Wendy take a deep dive into Derrick Todd Lee AKA The Baton Rouge Serial Killer. He was a black man whose killing spree began in the 90’s and ended in 2003, and claimed the lives of at least seven women.  This case baffled authorities because most of the victims were white, and at the time, they didn’t believe that serial killers were capable of crossing racial lines.

We hit you with some stats (8:08) then we dive into the setting (9:32 ) of Baton Rouge and it’s history.  We talk about the killers early life (19:19) and run down the time line of the crimes (24:58).  Then, we get into the investigation & arrest (39:03) followed by Lee’s trial and sentencing (43:56).  We’ll tell you what we know about where the people involved are now (45:03). We get into our Take Aways and what we think made the perp snap (47:34).

As usual we close out the show some tips on how not to get murdered (52:29), crime news (55:36) and of course, with some shout outs (57:22).
