FRUITLOOPS REVIEWS: The Stroll

Back in November of 2023, Fruitloops Video Club reviewed the Netflix Documentary, The Stroll.

Synopsis:

“When Director Kristen Lovell moved to New York City in the 1990s and began to transition, she was fired from her job. With so few options to earn money to survive, Kristen, like many transgender women of color during this era, began sex work in an area known as “The Stroll” in the Meatpacking District of lower Manhattan, where trans women congregated and forged a deep camaraderie to protect each other from harassment and violence.

Reuniting her sisters to tell this essential New York story from their first-hand experiences, Kristen’s intimate narration and interviews bring an astonishing array of archival material of bygone New York from the 1970s through the early 2000s to life.”

  1. I have to say this episode took me back to my teens, maybe 15. 1980’s! I would go clubbing until the dawn and, if I ended up on the west side, the trans women were just so loving, funny and heartbreaking. All at the same time. We’d have breakfast together in a diner, telling stories, really loudly 😊

The reality of gay unity was a fantasy. Until, the aids era, women, trans, poc and variety that was not white, cis passing, male was not included in the rainbow. It was actually dangerous to be at a party with these Log Cabin (so gay😂)republicans. I know ppl who were drugged and assaulted in dungeon parties. Still, to this day, there’s a political divide.

Can’t wait to watch this documentary. I have a place in my heart for those women in the diner, I felt protected, loved and motherd’. We were all connected in our femininity, the love flowed. Everyone should be loved for what is their heart ♥️

Lastly, Mother Earth is more important than any human. RuPaul is not above any of us. Destroying our home planet is a stupid human crime. He’s dead to me, the ignorance is too glaring to ignore.

    Signed,

    Cap-tin Planet 🌍

    love yous girls ♥️
